Here's my thing with the video DSLR's - I'm not a serious stills photographer but if there was a kick ass stills camera that also shot excellent quality HD video at useful selectable frame rates (23.98, 25, 29.97) I would definitely consider picking one up. Like any serious cameraperson, I would love to have a video camera with a big sensor and good glass that can fit in my backpack but that's really the only thing that excites me about this new corner of the market. I'm not that interested in using a camera like this as a full on production camera as it clearly not designed to be one. It's definitely very exciting new technology and is indicative of where things are heading but again, it's a compromised production tool when you try to make it something that it's not. This ties in with my general opinion on depth of field adapters but more on that some other time. What's got me most interested right now is where this technology could go - I predict that within a year or two there will be an affordable pro video camera on the market with a full frame sensor, some kind of interchangeable lens mount, and an ENG form factor. And if you read the link above, it seems that 23.98 could be coming to the 5D Mark II very soon. C'mon Canon -why wouldn't you?
