Gamma Lift in Vimeo Player

Anyone out there know why Vimeo lifts your gamma upon upload? The files look great on the desktop and then once they're in Vimeo's Flash Video format, the images always look brighter and with milkier blacks. It almost looks like it's adding 7.5 IRE Setup. Weird.

Any enlightening information and/or workarounds would be tremendously appreciated.
